‘Nga Here Toto ki te Whenua’

… translated means…

‘Blood Ties to Land’

‘Nga Here Toto Ki Te Whenua’ in an Adults Quarter Length Design is a symbolic representation of blood ties to land.

Placental ties; connecting to whenua through blood; bloodlines linked to land.

The journey of birthright and of rightful claim, through ancestral blood lines.

Preserving the sanctity of sacred ground, that has served generations of Tūpuna.

Blood ties to land serve as the foundational basis for the future generations of mokopuna and moko-moko too come.

Inspired by my own experience of an unexpected journey down a formidable rabbit hole. To uncover the truth behind the cruddy old veil. Set by crown; to steal lands through dirty dealings under the prescribed ‘alienation’ of Maori owners from their ancestral lands, under the 1888 NZ native land courts process.

Fast forward to the current Māori land courts of today… our people ate worse off than ever!

need I say more!

Don’t give in Whānau!

We weren’t born Māori to give in and give up! If you whakapapa to whenua stand tall with your tūpuna!

Tihei mauri ora!

‘Te Ao Haruru’ is the Taniko Band (Ive had the pleasure of naming) and means…

The Resonating Light.

A resonating light with an energy ebbing in frequency; ebbs with a warm vibrating effect; the call of resonance; reconnection to whakapapa, marae and whanau connections. Healing disconnection.

The name was inspired with a sense of connecting our disconnected each to their whakapapa through a wanting to belong - longing for Ukaipo - A place to belong.

Ive found a large percentage of customers who have lost their way and are looking to incorporate a sense of reconnection /belonging.

(Resonance in physics is defined as follows: A phenomenon in which an external force or a vibrating system forces another system around it to vibrate with greater amplitude at a specified frequency of operation.)
